Koh Samui

We arrived in Koh Samui and shared a mini van (200THB) to Us Hostel. Hired a moped then headed to the Fisherman’s Village to meet Harvey and Daisy. Had lunch with them then headed back to the hostel to chill. Our friend Scott (who I lived with in Birmingham) happened to be in Samui so met us for dinner and a drink in Fishermans Village. We sat on the beach for about half an hour before a torrential downpour so moved inside before getting soaked.

The next morning was NYE, Mol, Antony (our dorm mate) and I jumped on the mopeds and headed to Nanuang Waterfalls 1 & 2. The waterfalls were about 45 minutes away by bike but so worth the drive! We swam in both waterfalls, having to take a real sketchy 4x4 ride to the top of waterfall 1. Grabbed dinner on the way home from a restaurant inside a huge Tesco superstore then headed back to the hostel to begin the celebrations.

As with the tradition of NYE we got smashed with Scott and a load of new friends we met in the hostel from all over the world. The 13 of us played drinking games then got a mini bus to Ark Bar on Chaweng Beach. We had an amazing night with everyone and welcomed in the New Year in style, on the beach watching fireworks and fire shows from all around the bay. Mol and I had a little adventure on the way home, including one moped taxi, 2 cheese & ham toasties, some Pimp My Ride cars and a lovely local who eventually dropped us home on her moped for 100 THB (she was not a taxi driver, might I add).

(Buckets on the beach for New Years) On the first day of 2018 we chilled by the hostel pool for a bit then headed to the Big Buddha statue with Tarek then Chaweng beach where we met Tim & Fera for some food and a drink. That night we went to meet Harvey & Daisy and their friends from home - we (I) got pretty drunk at an amazing beach bar called Coco Tams, then watched United vs Everton.

(Big Buddha, Koh Samui)

The next day we got a ferry, bus & minivan to Au Nang (700THB pp).
